This is the summer project. This is a demo of the Christian Hip Hop collaboration between Chiko the young genius and Boom, the old lady in San Francisco. I am quite pleased with the way this came out, because it features so much of my voice, I thought I would be nervous to play back often. Hopefully, and the goal is for Chiko to turn this into a track he would be proud of. Something to start or add to his own Christian Hip Hop portfolio would be the optimum goal. Please stay tuned, record and music video coming Summer, 2025. Praise Yah!

Superblack Records
In 2017, I rebranded DB!SPA Records as Superblack Records, inspired by my profound admiration for the Zimbabwean artist Dumi Maraire. My transformative experience happened in 2016 when I had the privilege of performing his original compositions in a marimba band. This is when I created the Boom Jungle Wood moniker.
Superblack Records has evolved from a Diaspora dance label, predominantly focused on funky house music, into a distinguished Afro Gospel and Christian/Hip Hop label. I find this evolution unsurprising.

2010
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rihanna
I can remember hearing Umbrella for the first time as though it was yesterday. Rihanna became a superstar but in my peripheral. I didn’t pay too much attention to her music in the 2000s. Actually, I found her voice indistinguishable and her productions also indistinguishable. I finally came around and listened to Only Girl, very recently, maybe 2020.
I am very happy to finish my journey and land on this track. The 2000s, not my favorite decade for music or in my personal life. Still, I must respect the good producers from this era since the young independent producers I work with today are mostly influenced by this music technology.

2009

Ode to Pharrell and The Neptunes, possibly the most famous record producer(s)in the 2000s that somewhat inspired me. I was more impressed with Teddy Riley the previous decade(s). It was close. Pharrell has an impressive catalog and I could have selected an Usher track or a Justin Timberlake track. Hollaback Girl as basic as it is, was the one I enjoyed the most in the real time.

Well (big sigh), the 2000s have been exhausting only because it’s so hard for me to recall songs/records I either 1) loved 2) found inspiring or 3) would give more than a “8” rating for production.
Let’s just finish this decade out with songs I would recommend for one or more reasons. I love Whitney Houston and George Michael has produced some of my favorite radio edits of all time. When If I Told You That came out, I missed it. I discovered it late. In retrospect, who has anything bad to say about this collaboration?

I’m jumping ahead but it is important I only post music I recommend or love or can at least tolerate. In the middle of the 2000s it’s becoming hard to find songs on the list or charts I really cared for. The last time I looked forward to watching the Grammys was when Lady Gaga was a new artist. Since this year I couldn’t tell you who the best new artist or winner of record of the year was.

It is going to be somewhat challenging to post songs/records that I loved or was inspired by for the rest of the decade. Indeed I was probably listening to music released from previous decades by 2006.
If Todd Terry’s, Something Going On from 1997 is a “10” in my humble opinion. Hey Mama is around a “7.” Nonetheless, I did like this song when it came out. They were all the rage.

2006/Rate this Record
It was around this time that I established Rate this Record for the Internet. Originally conceived to shed light on a child custody case from Washington State, I immediately recognized that the name was well suited for my music label. The next year, in 2007, I inaugurated the Rate this Record Dance Music Network. I was committed to championing independent music producers. The Network encompassed a special group of exceptionally talented producers hailing from all over the globe. The winner of our inaugural Producer of the Year contest was DJ George Patsan. If he happens to recall, please extend my regards to him.
In 2007, I became acquainted with Audacity software, and from that moment onward, you may refer to me as a dance music producer. During this period, I was somewhat delusional, overly optimistic about my productions. Nevertheless, alongside aka Rex, I co-produced one of my all-time favorite releases around 2010. Sadly, this marked the end of my collaborative and production endeavors with Rex, but fortunately, we can still relish the fruits of our labor today.

I wasn’t feeling happy in 2005, depression was going to be real for several years out. I remember listening to Walking With a Ghost and thinking it was a cute-ditty. There weren’t a bunch of lyrics to decipher but my subconscious related to the idea. I finally lost my ghost and I wrote a song about it too. Lyrics mean a lot.
